SURVIVOR
Each week I will pick two games, my “Play it Safe” selection as well as my “Out on a Limb” pick:
Play It Safe: Chargers vs. CAR
The Chargers are expected to start rookie Justin Herbert at quarterback and with the Panthers’ defense being among the worst in the league it could be a great opportunity for the youngster to build off his impressive impromptu debut last week in a loss the Chiefs. The real story though will be in the running game where LA should be able to run all over the Panthers and on the other side of things without Christian McCaffrey look for Carolina to struggle badly at moving the chains in this one.
Out on a Limb: Eagles vs. CIN
Rarely do I target an 0-2 football team in my Survivor picks, but the Eagles get to host a young Bengals’ team this week and that could be just what the doctor ordered for Carson Wentz and company as Philadelphia tries to get their offense on track. Cincinnati’s defense made Baker Mayfield look really good a week ago and I expect similar results here.

THURSDAY NIGHT SPECIAL
You can get my complete “Against the Spread” plays to a separate article that will run each Saturday or Sunday morning this season. In its place here, I offer up a Thursday night betting recommendation. My starting Thursday night bankroll for the purposes of this article was $1000. Two weeks in here and two wins, including last week’s back-door cover with the Bengals.
Starting Balance: $1000
Current Balance: $1300
The Pick:
$110 Over 48 MIA/JCK
The Jaguars have surprised me this year and look much better than the 4-win team oddsmakers were projecting them to be. The Dolphins haven’t looked terrible, but still are a work in progress on both sides of the ball. I expect Gardner Minshew and Ryan Fitzpatrick to have a bit of a shootout in this one. The short week scares me a bit, but I see both teams getting well into the 20’s on the scoreboard so I am going over in this one.
