Tapwrit Wins Belmont Stakes

Neither Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming or Preakness Stakes winner Cloud Computing were entered in the race and that made the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes wide open for Tapwrit.

The Todd Pletcher-trained colt chased down favorite Irish War Cry (5/2) in the stretch run to win the final leg of the 2017 Triple Crown.

Tapwrit paid $12.60 to win, $6.50 to place and $5 to show.

Irish War Cry paid $4.70 to place and $3.90 to show.

Patch, the one-eyed colt, paid $6.50 to show.

The $2 exacta paid $45.20.

The $1 trifecta paid $312.

The $1 superfecta, with Gormley as the fourth-place horse, paid $2,243.
